At FitLot, we believe that everyone deserves to have access to safe, welcoming spaces to exercise within walking distance of their homes. We work to be a resource for communities that want to plan, build and program their own outdoor fitness parks.
Unfortunately, many cities and towns lack the resources or capacity to build and program their own outdoor fitness spaces.
In response, FitLot teams up with local and national funding partners who want to affect change in the social determinants of health and generational health of our country, community by community. These corporations and foundations step up to make tax-deductible donations that support the establishment of community health spaces which we call FitLot Outdoor Fitness Parks.
Establishing a FitLot in your community is a team project.
Here are the steps involved.
1. PICK A PARK LOCATION
Identify a public green space in an area that could benefit from walkable access to an outdoor fitness park.
2. GET IT FUNDED
Identify a local funding partner i.e. Parks and Recreation Department, local foundation, or corporate sponsor in your city that truly supports the public health of your community. If none are available look into national funding opportunities like the ones listed in our Plan A Park Guide.
3. PLAN
Work with the landowning partner through the planning and construction.
4. BUILD
Organize a community build day with local volunteers or have a certified installer start and finish the project.
5. ACTIVATE
Hire local Fitness Professionals as FitLot Neighborhood Coaches to host no-cost community classes.
